La Cava Baja is a street in Madrid (in the so-called Madrid de Los Austrias) of the Latina district. It runs from the Puerta Cerrada square to the Plaza del Humilladero and is adjacent and parallel to the Cava Alta that, coming out of the Moros gate, reaches Toledo Street. Both Cavas are named after the mines that allowed access to the medieval population during the Arab domination, although its doors were closed; they were later blinded because they had become a refuge for groups of thugs.
